Duncan McClellan's complex and highly refined works are created by use of the "Graal technique" incorporating overlay techniques, hand cutting and photo resist. To finish these works, acid-etching, fire-polishing methods and six-stage grinding and polishing techniques are used on the multi-layered, multi-colored works of glass. These processes enable McClellan to create imagery inside and on the surface of the works. He often employs visual images on both the inside and the outside of the glass, thereby juxtaposing images, light and shadow to articulate his unique message. "Experimentation with the medium has allowed me more freedom of expression, to better draw the viewer in to what I envision and hopefully touch similar emotions," he says.
