Poteet Victory is a contemporary color field artist with an expressive use of subtle imagery, emotive color and surface transparency. His oeuvre over the last three decades charts the mysteries of inner landscapes employing powerful colors that resonate with his heritage and invoke the strong emotions of our evolutionary process.Raised in Idabel, Oklahoma of Choctaw-Cherokee descent, he began his studies in art in the early 70’s under the tutelage of Harold Stevenson. Harold was the founder of ‘Gigantism’ in the late 1950’s that influenced the large format work of the pop artists in the early 1960’s. Poteet went on to study at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma and the Art Students League in New York. In the late 70’s, Poteet was experimenting with silk screening techniques and upon being introduced to Andy Warhol was instrumental in assisting Andy with his silk screening process.
