Chidi Kwubiri

Nigerian born and based in Germany, Kwubiri has been painting since childhood.  Vibrant colors drawn from traditional African masks and clothing inform the work.  Elongated, totemic faces - often decorated with elaborate designs recall rituals and ceremonies from the artist's homeland.  This artist has managed the task of bringing together elements of his African tradition with the abstracted sophistication of pure painting.
