Born in London in 1938, Terry O’Neill’s career in photography began quite by chance. As a budding jazz drummer he thought working for a transatlantic airline would be an inexpensive way to regularly visit the United States. However, rather than finding a job as a steward, he was offered a position in the airline's photographic unit.
In the 1970s O’Neill finally crossed the Atlantic and began shooting the stars of Hollywood for the likes of
Playboy,
Life and
Premiere magazine. During this time he also began a fifteen year relationship with the actress Faye Dunaway, they wed in 1983. O’Neill continued to enjoy great success on both sides of the pond throughout the 1980s and 1990s and is still working regularly today for newspapers and magazines.
